Something magical…

May 7, 2009

Be prepared to be swept away on a magical mystery tour aboard the Orient Express in the new Chanel no. 5 movie starring Audrey Tautou.

Of course Audrey was the perfect pick to star in the new advertisement as she is playing Coco Chanel in the new biopic ‘Coco Avant Chanel‘.

chanel5audrey2While you wait for the film, travel with Audrey and the handsome, mysterious stranger  through the French countryside all the way to Istanbul.

Guest blog: The lovely Camille visits Peru…

April 27, 2009

As we work our way towards the middle of the week, sometimes you just want an escape – my friend Camille recently returned from a trip to visit family in Peru. She’s been kind enough to take show us some of her finds…

“During a recent trip to Lima, I was inspired to take photographs of some of my favourite pieces for my dear friend Sharalee. Sharalee and I hit it off almost immediately after meeting because of our love for beautiful interiors that reflect our childhood homes. Her’s being Zimbabwe and mine being Peru. She encouraged me to share some of these photographs with you.”

“Peruvians artists typically use embroidery techniques and designs that project the ancient cultures of Peru. These pillows punch up any decor!”
“The wood sculpting expertise of the skilful artisan is reflected in beautiful hand carved furniture.”
“This is my favourite place at the Indian Market in Miraflores. You are welcomed by the bright and friendly Peruvian woman who dyes and weaves all of these pieces herself. If you’re lucky, you might even catch her in midst of making a basket. Imagine, a wooden Teak bowl filled with colourful wooven fruit. Or heading off to a summer Sunday afternoon picnic at the park, carrying all of your favoutire treats in a bright beautiful handbag.
The butterflies would look lovely hanging over your front porch. I couldn’t resist and brought a red flower
home which is now sitting in my kitchen window.
I hope that you found these photos insightful, inspiring, and enjoyed
them as much as I enjoyed sharing them with you!”
Thanks Camille for sharing your trip – Peru looks so beautiful and I love that bright colour
is deeply ingrained in Peruvian art. Next time I want to come along!

Escapism – The Oberoi Udaivilas

April 3, 2009

Going through all the gorgeous pictures of The Fall got me fantasizing about a luxurious, exotic vacation. What better cure than The Oberoi Udaivilas in Udaipour, India. I’ve always had a fascination with traditional Indian architecture and this luxurious getaway features private suites and courtyards where you enjoy palatial architecture and luxurious amenities.

Originally an Indian palace, it is filled with rambling courtyards, beautiful fountains and pools , and traditional domes and pavilions. The interiors feature decorative Frescoes and intricate mirror work.

The holistic spa features a private pool overlooking the lake – what an amazing way to relax and unwind  in awe of the beauty around you. You can also take advantage of private meditation, yoga and Pranayam sessions with a resident Yoga teacher. That’s exactly what I need right now…

While visiting there why not take the opportunity to explore some of the amazing historic architecture, maybe even some from The Fall!

Escapism – Singita Game Reserve, Pamushana Lodge

March 9, 2009

Feeling a little homesick, I was delighted to find this gorgeous luxury lodge in Zimbabwe. Singita Game Reserves has several other lovely lodges but for completely biased reasons, this one was my favourite! Nestled among the Mopane forests in South Eastern Zimbabwe, the lodge boasts a gorgeous combination of natural wonder and beautiful design. With a strong African theme in the design and decor, Pamushana delivers a fantastic, modern-ethno experience.

The beautiful graphic geometric murals are throughout the resort, the walls are even architectural homage to the Great Zimbabwe ruins.

Outdoor dining and the infinity pool overlooking the Maliangwe Dam.

Relax on the outdoor beds surrounded by lanterns on the patio, overlooking the dam.

The luxury suites boast a private patio with an amazing view. I love the dramatic peak in the thatched roof!

Larger-than-life baobabs at the Lodge.
